Tinubu along sides three distinguished Nigerians, Emir of Daura, Alhaji Umar Faruk Umar, a veteran politician Alhaji Hamisu Musa and the late Malam Mudi Sipikin were conferred with honorary Doctorate Degrees of Science (Honoris Causa) by the senate of the University for their Contributions to the development of democracy and humanity.
Six hundred and ninety-six students were conferred with Bachelor of Science and Bachelor of Technology degrees in five faculties across 18 departments.
Only four students made first class honours degrees.
The pro-chancellor of the university, Barrister Abubakar Balarabe Mahmud (SAN) said the university established in 2001 achieved a lot despite challenges particularly in infrastructure.
He called on the wealthy individuals and corporate organisations to support the university in the area of infrastructural development.
In his address, chancellor of the university, Alhaji Aliko Dangote commended the founding father of the university, Governor Rabi'u Musa Kwankwaso for his contributions to the development of the university. Dangote pledged to construct the new faculty of medicine, university central mosque and other infrastructural buildings estimated at N2bilion.
Also Speaking, the vice chancellor of the university, Professor Umar Garba Danbatta said the graduating students were of the 2011 and 2012 academic sessions.
Danbatta said the university has produced students with excellent performances, adding that the students will perform well wherever they find themselves.
Speaking on behalf of the awardees, Tinubu thanked the university for recognizing and finding them worthy of the awards.
He commended Kwankwaso for his effort in transforming Kano to a modern city and also made a pledge to construct a student's hostel for the university.
Delivering his address, Kano State governor and visitor to the university, Kwankwaso pledged to improve condition of living and learning in the university.
He reiterated his administration's commitments to improving the standard of education in the state and urged the graduates to be good ambassadors of the university and Kano State wherever they go.
