Coventry University College welcomes back adult learners

Coventry University College
Coventry University College (CUC) is encouraging adults to get back on the learning ladder with the chance to win a free place on one of its professional summer school courses.

The offer is being made as part of Adult Learners’ Week 2013, a national campaign which promotes the benefits of lifelong learning and which runs from Saturday 18 to Friday 24 May.

CUC is hosting an open day for adult learners – the only event of its kind in Coventry and Warwickshire during the week-long celebration – on Wednesday 22 May at its campus in Coventry city centre. CUC teaching staff will be joined at the open day by colleagues from Coventry University, Coventry City Council, Warwickshire College, University of Warwick and others.

The open day provides the perfect opportunity to explore the different types of learning opportunities available to adults from all walks of life and will include taster sessions of the many courses on offer at CUC and the other learning providers, as well as 1-2-1 chats with tutors.

Coventry University College, which draws on the experience and resources of the city’s university and which is based on its campus, offers an alternative to the traditional higher education route with a range of courses all delivered in a flexible way to suit the learner’s needs.

Its professional summer school courses cover a variety of subjects – from cash management to mediation and counselling skills – and cost just £99 but the College is offering one lucky person the chance to win a free place on one of these courses. Anyone interested in entering the competition just needs to attend the open day where they will be automatically entered into the prize draw.

John Dishman, Director of Coventry University College, said: “Adult Learners’ Week is all about promoting the many positive benefits of lifelong learning and Coventry University College is delighted to be hosting its open day as part of the celebrations.

“We offer a wide range of academic programmes and have designed our courses for people who want to benefit from high quality teaching but, for whatever reason, have decided that the traditional student path is not for them.

“Academic qualifications can of course enhance job prospects but learning isn’t all about career development. People might want to return to education to broaden their horizons, make new friends or simply to have fun.

“Whatever the reason, I hope as many people as possible from the local community will come along to our open day to find out more about what’s on offer. With a free place on one of our excellent professional summer school courses up for grabs it could prove to be a life changing experience!”
