Midlands University Student Launches Fashion Label

Student Fashion Label
A Midlands State University student, Tafadzwa "Tafgeezy" Gondo, recently launched a clothing label called Urban Grooves Ndizvo in Gweru.

The label, which seeks to promote music, especially urban grooves, is already the talk of town. In an interview with Cool Lifestyle, Tafgeezy said the concept was based on creating a brand that promotes the urban grooves genre.

"It was inspired by the need to promoting the urban grooves genre.

"People have misconceptions about the music, stating that it's for those who have failed in life, but it is the opposite," he said.

Tafgeezy, who is also a musician, said he ventured into designing to diversify his income streams.

"The income generated through music might not be good enough to sustain me and the projects I want to embark on in the future. I came up with the idea to set up a brand that would help complement my entire career," he said.

He urged fellow students and the local community to support his label.

"It will be a dream come true, seeing locals wearing my label, rushing to the shops for it," he noted.

Tafgeezy said although Zimbabweans opt for international labels, they should start looking for local products.

"I have seen many people donning international labels such as Gucci, Prada and Louis Vuitton among others, which is good. What irks me is when I see a local moving around with a label, 'I Love New York, 'Jamaica Rocks', Why can't we be proud of our labels?" said Tafgeezy.

Currently, he has T-shirts under his label and will soon work on trousers, jeans and jackets.

"We started with T-shirts because it's summer and that is the hottest item so far. We plan to explore further on other clothing items," he said.

He added that the label, which is only six months old, was here to stay.
