The state Board of Education voted to hike tuition at all four public universities — though not all university presidents got exactly what they requested.
Trustees approved a 6.9 percent hike at Boise State University and increases between 4 and 5 percent for the University of Idaho, Idaho State University and Lewis-Clark State College.
The boost represents a smaller increase than previous years: tuition jumped by at least 9 percent at three campuses two years ago.
University officials say the increase will help fund scholarships and faculty benefits.
University of Idaho President Duane Nellis argued declining enrollment at the Moscow campus and an ongoing gap in state funding made the increase necessary.
