The third floor of the Abena Atea Building which houses several other businesses has been completely destroyed, according to a student of Sikkim Manipal University (SMU)
“I can confirm that all the items in the building aredestroyed; but the fire service personnel tells me they are on top of the issue,” she said.
According to her the fire personnel have run out of water.
The ground floor of the 7-Storey building, said to belong to the mother of Ghanaian football international, Samuel Osei Kufuor, also houses Access Bank.
The Sikkim Manipal University shares the 3rd and 4th floors with the NIIT and the two institutions have been the most affected.
A cleaner who works at the building said she noticed the fire at about 6:30 Tuesday morning but all efforts to reach the fire service proved unsuccessful.
She said the fire extinguishers also failed to function when the security men she alerted tried to quench the fire.
Dela Aglanu quotes the Accra Regional Police PRO, DSP Freeman Tettey as saying investigations into the fire incident will start immediately.
The wife of Samuel Osei Kufuor has been to the building to assess the extent of damage caused by the fire. The fire has since been controlled.
