Indigent post-graduate students in Cross River have appealed to the government to provide them with

The President, Cross River Post-Graduate Students Association, Mr Omini Etta, made the appeal on Friday in Calabar when executive members of the association visited the State’s Head of Service, Mrs Mary-Theresa Ikwen.

According to him, the grants will largely assist students to carry out researches in areas that can hasten development of Cross River.

Etta said research was the life-wire of any society and added that lack of support could truncate the desire to break grounds in several areas of human endeavour.

He commended the Obanliku Local Government Area for giving succour to students through the payment of research grant ranging from N10, 000 to N20,000.

In his remarks, Ikwen commended the students for the articulate manner they presented their case and described them as patriots.

She expressed delight at the establishment of the University of Calabar in the early 70s and noted that it had boosted the number of graduates in the state.

Ikwen also commended the students for taking steps to sensitise youths on the need to read specialised courses in tertiary institutions.

This, she noted, would address the manpower needs of Cross River.

She said she was aware of the existence of research grant and directed them to contact the Ministry of Education for further clarification on the issue. (NAN)
