MIDDLE EAST, UAE, Monash University seeks tie-ups with Oman’s Sultan Qaboos University

Muscat, Oman: Sultan Qaboos University is exploring the possibilities of becoming a member of the global network of universities by joining hands with Monash University in Australia.

 The Monash University is proposing a new model of networking of universities across the world to meet the global challenges of the current century.
A key aim of the global alliance of research institutions is to help meet the increasing student, industry and government demand for universities to produce graduates
with a global education, and to undertake research that addresses world-relevant and strategically important problems.

In this regard, Dr Ali bin Saud al Bimani, SQU Vice Chancellor and HH Sayyidah Dr Moha bint Fahd al Said, SQU Deputy Vice Chancellor for International Co-operation, held discussions with Prof Edward Byrne, Vice Chancellor and President of Monash University, who visited SQU yesterday.

The president of Monash University invited SQU to be part of the new global network of universities in order to accelerate the exchange of people, ideas and information and exploiting the opportunities offered by the geography of the educational institutions.

Prof Edward said that Monash is keen to establish strategic alliance with universities excelling in teaching and research.
The alliance envisages strong intellectual links between the partner universities and equal partnerships.

The first step of joining the alliance is to identify own areas of excellence to work together in research with an international partner. Joint PhD programmes with engagement of the industry is one of the channels through which the alliance is activated.

HH Sayyidah Dr Moha said that water and environment, nursing, education and Islamic banking and finance are some of the areas in which SQU has a strong research base.
