The background to the agreement dates back to 2012, when a team from UoN had the opportunity of touring some of the agricultural research projects that LZU has in place. According to Prof. Zhou Xuhong, LZU is committed to research as it is its strength. Indeed, LZU is known for its continued long research-orientated tradition.

Presiding over the meeting on behalf of the Vice Chancellor, UoN, Prof. Isaac Mbeche, Deputy Vice Chancellor, Student Affairs, said that the University was committed to working with LZU towards the realization of the partnership’s vision. He said that the engagement will not only be beneficial to the students and staff involved, but the country as well. He challenged researchers to ensure that the research they conduct solves some of the problems the country is facing. According to Prof. Agnes Mwang’ombe, Principal, CAVS, the Faculty has adapted the waste management and water harvesting technologies which will work well for the country because 80 per cent of Kenya is arid and semi-arid.

Prof. Jacob Kaimenyi, Deputy Vice Chancellor, Academic Affairs, Prof. Solomon Shibairo, Dean, Faculty of Agriculture and Prof. S. Mitema, Director, Center for international Progammes and Linkages are among those who witnessed the signing of the MoU.
