MIDDLE EAST, UAE, Sharjah student’s death: Kuwait backs UAE probe

Manama, Kuwait: A Kuwaiti official has urged the media and social networks to exercise utmost care when reporting or making statements on the circumstances surrounding the untimely death of a young Kuwaiti national in the UAE.

“The allegations made here and there could cause confusion and could result in abuse to the victim, his family and the suspects,” said Khalid Al Jarallah, the Foreign Ministry undersecretary. “We urge all parties to be cautious and not to make any statement or issue comments or reports or jump to conclusions without clear evidence,” he said, quoted by local Arabic daily Al Anba on Wednesday.

Al Jarallah said officials in Kuwait were waiting for the results of the investigations by the UAE authorities and “expressed gratitude for their cooperation with the Kuwaiti consulate and for updating them on the progress of the probe.”

He added: “The security authorities in the UAE are assuming their responsibilities with aptitude as they are investigating the horrendous crime and quizzing the two Kuwaiti nationals arrested in connection with the case.”

Al Jarallah said there was no need to send a Kuwaiti team to help with the investigations. “The UAE authorities are well capable of uncovering the truth and we have full confidence in their work and in their credibility. There is no need to send a security team over there,” he said.

Police in Sharjah indicated that severe beatings were behind the death of the Kuwaiti student earlier this week.

Mubarak Mesha’al Mubarak, 19, was pronounced dead at the university hospital in Sharjah on Sunday. He was taken there in a critical condition by another Kuwaiti student and immediately admitted to the emergency unit but died despite the best efforts of the medical staff to save him, the police said.

The severe bruising on various parts of Mubarak’s body prompted the hospital to call in the police.

“In his initial statements, the suspect who took the victim to hospital said that he was at a cafe with his friend when he collapsed and he asked a passerby to help him take him to the nearest hospital,” the daily Al Rai quoted police as saying.

However, the suspect, when questioned later about the bruises on Mubarak’s body, admitted that he and another Kuwaiti student had beaten up Mubarak over three days in their shared accommodation, a flat they rented in the Abu Daniq area in Sharjah.

The second suspect also admitted to beating up Mubarak over personal and financial matters, but claimed his aim was to discipline him.

The prosecution ordered the detention of the two suspects pending the final reports from the doctor and the laboratory. - See more at: http://www.edarabia.com/74825/sharjah-students-death-kuwait-backs-uae-probe/#sthash.iSL97d35.dpuf
