NIGERIA, Lagos tasks parents on free education

The Permanent Secretary, Lagos State Ministry of Education, Mrs. Omolara Erogbogbo, has urged parents to take advantage of the free basic education offered by the state government and send their children to school.

Speaking to journalists at the recently held workshop for education stakeholders in the state, Erogbogbo said the state government has put measures in place to ensure that no child is turned back from schools in the state.

“There are challenges in basic education, which is the crucial stage of education but we are doing our best by urging parents to key into the state government’s drive to provide free education in the state by sending their children to school.

“The state government has spent a lot of money in providing infrastructure, furniture, textbooks, among others and all these would amount to waste if there are still a lot of out-of-school children in the state.”

Calling on parents and other education stakeholders to support the state government’s free education initiative, the chairperson, State Universal Basic Education Board, Lagos State, Mrs. Gbolahan Daodu, said; “the law is there but we need the support of all to enforce this law because we would not force parents to send their children to school, neither would we kidnap children from the streets and take them to school.”
