AFRICA, Liberia, 'Mass Expulsion At CWA'

The administration of the College of West Africa (CWA) has been taken aback and disturbed over a news story captioned: "Mass Expulsion at CWA 25 delinquent 12 graders affected", carried in the volume 2, No. 174 edition of the Women voices Newspaper of February 2S, 2012.

Whilst it is true that the institution is clothed with the authority and reserves the right to suspend or expel students for tangible cause in Accordance with its rules and regulations as enshrined in the students' Handbook, such decision has never been taken, neither has the chief Administrator and official spokesman of the school, Mr. Richard G. Wiah, Sr. ever granted an interview regarding the subject matter to any journalist, as reported by the newspaper.

Publishing the names of students for poor academic performance without an authorized official listing and approval from the school authorities, in our opinion, carries a criminal connotation that does not have the support of the school's administration. Yes! Indeed, the philosophy of CWA since her founding has been, and still is, academic excellence.

When it therefore becomes necessary to suspend or expel for any cause whatsoever especially for dismal academic performance in order to maintain the magnet status of the school, we will not operate in hiding, but will have the public informed officially through the print and electronic media; but for now, such decision has never been taken.

We call upon all reporters of the various news organs to first verify the authenticity of sensitive issues that may have the propensity to embarrass administration and the entire student populace, before going public, thereby dragging the good image of the institution below reproach.

We, therefore, demand an immediate retraction of the story and an open apology from the publisher to ensure against a recurrence and to serve as a deterrent to others.
