150 ICT Centre at the Central Classroom Block of KNUST
Professor William Otoo Ellis, Vice-Chancellor, on the 13th of May, 2016 commissioned a 150-capacity Information Communication Technology (ICT) Centre at the Central Classroom Block (CCB). This project was a collaboration between the former and current Students’ Representative Council (SRC) presidents and the University’s Information Technology Services (UITS). The project commenced in the year 2012.

The ICT Centre has a capacity of 150 computers: 100 computers for internet browsing and 50 computers for training purposes. The purpose of this project is to train students in Information Technology (IT) applications like Microsoft Office, AUTOCAD for both Design and Architectural students, Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) for students undertaking projects and theses and others. Students would have access to free high speed internet for assignments and research. Students without laptops can use the centre’s computers for academic purposes.

This project is the fifth ICT Centre on campus. The others are the Main Library ICT Centre, Huawei ICT Centre at the College of Science, GRASAG ICT Centre at the non-residential 2 facility and the SRC/UITS ICT Centre I at the Commercial Area. The total cost of the project is GHC1.6 million. It is located at the CCB basement.

Professor William Otoo Ellis, Vice-Chancellor, expressed his profound appreciation to the partners of this project for showing immense teamwork in getting the centre up and running. He touched on the integrity shown by SRC presidents both present and past for utilising the funds of the students well and investing in such a formidable centre for the benefit of all students, staff and the university community at large. He further went on to encourage students to be always accountable and to be also concerned about the growth and development of a better KNUST.

Dr. Owusu-Daaku, Dean of Students, was happy that the project had finally seen the light of day amidst the challenges which led to the project taking four years to complete. He observed that some of the challenges the project faced were from funding and procurement.
