The members of the winning team include Louisa Ofosuah Obimpeh (MPhil Food Science), Benardine Holdbrook Ghanson (MA African Studies), Anna Agyirwa Aggrey (BSc Food Processing Engineering) and Paulina Nyamekye (MPhil Economics).
They competed in the Hult Prize Dubai regional event on March 11 and 12, 2016 and built a solution to this year’s challenge by President Bill Clinton around “Crowded Urban Spaces”. Their solution in short is to double the income of people living in crowded urban spaces by reducing their living expenditure.
They will join the winning teams from each host city namely, Earlham College, Hult International Business School, University of Cambridge, BRAC University and the winner of the online challenge in a summer business accelerator programme, where participants will receive mentorship, advisory and strategic planning as they create prototypes and set-up to launch their new social business.
The University of Ghana Campus Director of Hult Prize Mr. Frank Agyapong said that the team came up with a good, scalable and sustainable idea which he believed will impact millions of lives. He called on all stakeholders to help make this possible.
The CEO and Founder of the Hult Prize, Mr. Ahmad Ashkar, attributed the success of the competition to the global youth revolution and said, “We continue to be moved by the large number of students from around the world who are capitalizing on the opportunity to develop business models that target the bottom of the pyramid. We wish every team the best of luck and thank University of Ghana for supporting this initiative.”
The Hult Prize is a start-up accelerator for social entrepreneurship, which brings together the brightest college and university students from around the globe to solve the world’s most pressing issues. The annual initiative is the world’s largest student competition and crowd-sourcing platform for social good, and has been funded by the Hult family since its inception in 2009.
Congratulations to our young ladies, Louisa, Benardine, Anna and Paulina for making the University proud.
