The South Tongu District chief Executive, Mr Samuel Mawuko Eworyi has inaugurated the commencement of construction of three unit classroom block, an office, a storeroom, a common room, and a toilet facility for two communities.
Performing the ceremony at separate functions at Lave and Detsawome, the DCE reiterated Government’s determination to provide adequate infrastructure which formed part of the four pillars of the Government prioritized areas, especially in the Education sector.
According to him, Government was determined to improve upon teaching and learning especially in rural communities and would not hesitate to provide the congenial environment and other materials such as exercise books, test books and school uniform.
He reminded the people in the communities that the “Better Ghana Agenda” was on course and Government would not relent on its efforts to fulfill its promises.
The projects which would take six months to complete would be funded from the GETFUND.
Samuel Eworyi advised members of the communities to co-operate with the contractors to enable them execute the project on schedule.
The project consultant, Mr Anyadi urged leaders of the communities to ensure that the school land was properly demarcated and documented to avoid future litigation. He also appealed to the contractors to employ unskilled labour from the communities.
The Headteacher of Lave Basic School, Mr John Edufe expressed his gratitude to the Government and the District Assembly for coming to the aid of the school. According to him, currently the pupils attended classes in an improvised structure which could collapse when there was a storm.
He lamented that the poor nature of the classroom structure made it difficult for the pupils to stay in school especially whenever the clouds gathered. He was optimistic that the new classroom block and its auxiliary facilities would bring a big relieve to the pupils and the teachers as well.
