Students suspended for posting pornographic photo in Classroom

Two Kansas high school students were suspended after they took a picture of a pornographic photo projected in their classroom from their teacher's laptop.

Administrators at J.C. Harmon High School gave the students two-day suspensions for violating the school's technology use policy, which bans students from using cellphones in class.

The mother of one of the students, Karen Winkel, told KCTV, "I believe my son got in trouble because the school was trying to hide something."

Winkel's son shared the cellphone photo with a friend, who then posted it on Facebook.

"It was very upsetting that this is happening when our kids are in school, when they are supposed to be learning," Laura Lester, the mother of the other student, told KCTV.

The cellphone photo taken by Lester's daughter "shows the laptop and projector, and in the background, there's an image of a naked woman in a compromising position from behind," reports KCTV.

The teacher in question has worked in the district since 2002, said David Smith, spokesman for Kansas City Public Schools, in an interview with USA TODAY Network.

Smith said he could not comment on whether the teacher was disciplined.

He added that the school "works very hard to maintain strong relationships with parents and continues to be willing to sit down with the parents in this case and work through any issues."
