Katsina State government has disbursed N38 million to female students under its Teachers Training Students Scholarship. The Special Adviser on Girl-child Education, Hajia Bilkisu Kaikai, said about 756 students benefited from the disbursement.
Kaikai said the money disbursed was for 2014 for female students studying NCE programme at Isa Kaita College of Education. She explained that each student received N50,000 as assistance from government and urged the beneficiaries to utilise the money.
Kaikai assured that government would sustain the programme in view of its importance toward encouraging females to pursue education and appealed to wealthy individuals to complement government effort in educational sector.
Besides, UNICEF Forcal Person, Isa Kaita College of Education, Dutsin-ma, Alhaji Kabir Magaji, said UNICEF had also assisted 250 students as part of its 20 per cent contribution to the programme.
Magaji commended the state government for the assistance to female students of the college and assured that UNICEF will continue to monitor their performance. Also, Director of Girl Education, Alh Sanusi Salisu, said benefitting students will be employed to teach in rural schools.
