EPE SENIOR GRAMMAR SCHOOL WINS 2014LAGOS SCHOOLS’ DEBATE

Miss Zainab Amusa and Miss Kaosarat Olabode of Epe Senior Grammar School have emerged winners of the Lagos State Schools’ Debate Season V with a total score of 79.63 to beat their counterpart from CMS Girls Senior Grammar School, Bariga represented by Miss Bukola Orekoya and Miss Victoria Ayenuro who both scored 79. 13.

Presenting the winners with trophy and a cheque of five hundred thousand naira, the Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babatunde Raji Fashola, who was represented by the Commissioner for Education, Mrs. Olayinka Oladunjoye congratulated the students for a job well done just as he commended the spirits of competitiveness displayed by them.

He advised them to continue to work hard particularly in their studies, adding that the state Government will also continue to put in place the necessary tools to ensure a brighter rewarding future for them.

Fashola who was quite impressed and encouraged by the brilliance and intelligence displayed by the participants urged the students to be focused and passionate about everything they do.

The Governor advised those who did not win at the competition this year to work harder next time as there is always an opportunity for them to prove themselves.

CMS Girls Senior Grammar School, Bariga represented by Bukola Orekoya and Victoria Ayenuro who came second went home with a trophy and a cheque of three hundred and fifty thousand naira only while Meiran Community Senior High School represented by the pair of Oluwabukola Ogunmuko and James Oluwatomisin who came third went home with the sum of two hundred thousand naira only.

In the Individual Speaker’s Category, Miss Kehinde Adeyemi of Vetland Senior Grammar School, Agege came first while Master Jeremiah Lawal of Isheri Senior Grammar School, Isheri and Master Toheeb Edun of Egan Senior Grammar School, Egan came second and third respectively

Earlier, the Special Adviser to the State Governor on Education, Otunba Fatai Olukoga noted that the programme has instilled in the students braveness and courage to speak in the public.

He applauded the participants for doing justice to the topics given them at the competition just as he also lauded the state government for sustaining the programme.

The Lagos State Schools Debate is one of the cardinal programmes of the state government aimed at developing and improving the public speaking skills, the spirit of competitiveness and confidence among the students for a brighter and rewarding future.

No fewer than 276 students from both public and private secondary schools in the state started the competition and the debaters were judged by their appearance, comportment, expression and content of their debate.
