Headmaster Under Attack Over 2014 WASSCE

Headmaster of Nkronman Senior High School at Seikwa in the Brong-Ahafo region, Joseph Abudu is allegedly turning the school into a remedial institution.

According to some residents, out of the over 876 final year candidates registered for this year’s West African Secondary School Certificate Examination (WASSCE), less than half of the candidates are not regular students from Nkronman.

The residents claim the students are from different institutions in the district, while others are failed candidates who are supposed to register for the November/December examination, but were made to pay huge amounts of money for registration.

“He has been registering non-regular students for WASSCE for the past years; this year alone the number of regular students who add up to the 876 final year candidates are far less, thereby reducing Nkronman SHS to a remedial centre,” they said.

The residents complained bitterly that the situation has for the past years contributed immensely to the poor performance of WASSCE results in the school.

The residents also complained about their fees and revealed that at Nkronman final year General Arts day students were made to pay a registration of GH¢270.00, while in Berekum Senior High School the same General Arts day students paid GH¢130.00 a difference of GH¢140.00.

Some residents who challenged the headmaster after being sacked were told it was a directive from the director general directing all headmasters across the country to collect third term fess from all final year students.

“When we demanded to see the letter authorizing headmasters to collect third term’s fees, the headmaster declined and said he doesn’t know us and we might be either personnel from Bureau of National Investigations.

“We later sent some of us to inquire from the Ghana Education Service director at Tain district who promised to invite the headmaster for questioning, so when we went for answers, the director told us Mr. Abudu has denied any wrong doing,” they stated.

When contacted on phone to react to the allegations, Mr. Abudu said there hasn’t been any attempt to register non-regular students and he has not turned the school into a remedial venture, adding that his final list of final year students has been accepted by WAEC and described the allegations as trivial.

On the issue of all final year students paying for third term school fees, the headmaster said “If anybody has issues, let him go GES for redress and not me.”
