Three British curriculum schools are set to open in the Motor City area this September.

Two of them - GEMS Metropole and GEMS First Point School - will have classes from Early Foundation Stage to Year 13, while the third – Safa Community School - will have classes from Foundation Stage 1 to 6. Together they will cater to over 9,000 students. GEMS Metropole is the first school inside Motor City. "Admissions have started for both GEMS First Point School and GEMS Metropole School and we are getting a lot of calls," said a GEMS spokesperson.

The Safa Community School near Miracle Garden has 600 seats. A further 2,000 seats will be added in the second phase.

"A lot of parents living in Motor City and Arabian Ranches send their children to our Meydan Road branch. But now they have an option closer home," said Andrew Prosser, Head of Primary - Safa Community School Dubai.

By 2015, another 2,100-seat British school will open in Dubailand with classes from Kindergarten to Grade 12.

GEMS opened three schools on Al Khail Road last year. They are GEMS New Millennium School (CBSE curriculum), GEMS Wellington Academy (British curriculum) and GEMS International School (IB curriculum). Last September, two British curriculum schools – Foremarke School Dubai in Dubai Biotechnology and Research Park (DuBiotech) and Victory Heights Primary School in Dubai Sports City opened with classes from Kindergarten to Grade 6.

Parents have welcomed the opening of new schools in their communities. "I own an apartment in Motor City, but I am forced to live in Jumeirah because there weren’t many schools in Dubailand areas. But with so many of them coming up, I might shift to my apartment," said a mother of two. "It’s very convenient for parents now that there is easy access to Al Khail Road from Dubailand," said V. Kashyap, a father of a fifth grader who lives in Arabian Ranches.
