Ethiopain Universities and Industries Sign Deal On Interactive collaboration

The government expressed its concern with universities and industries pursuing their respective way without any close collaboration for ages and become a source of great challenges.

The Science, Technology & Innovation Council lead by Demeke Mekonnen, deputy Prime Minister adopted a Science Technology Innovation Policy Strategy and its guidelines following thorough deliberations at its annual regular session.

Demeke said the Ministry of Science & Technology (MoST) must exert efforts to identify the core areas in which innovative approach is decisive contextualizing the realities in the country. To this effect, he said the achievements in realizing university and industry linkage this year could be cited as an example to help create means for close and interactive collaboration.

“To make it practical, universities and industry sector are expected to have a common space to plan and work the latter taking responsibility in recruiting skilled manpower,” Demeke said.

The university and industry linkage is vital to students as they would get the opportunity to apply theory into practice, says minister of Science & Technology, Demitu Hambissa. The National Science and Innovation Policy Strategy has been adopted and put into effect to lead the innovation engagement of the country in an organized manner.

The rationale behind establishing the council is to develop innovation appropriate to the national development programme, to address the prevailing social and economical problems and to wisely utilize limited resources, it was learnt.
