American University of Nigeria Set To Launch Smart Library

American University of Nigeria Smart Library Building
The American University of Nigeria (AUN) says it working on plans to launch its smart library in May this year.

The university said the smart library would serve as a model for using technology innovation to make learning easy and accessible.

The university added that with the smart library project, about 210 000 e-books and e-journals could be accessed using tablets, e-readers and other devices.

The library thus would be available to students and faculty 24/7 regardless of their location.

“It is multi-functional, efficient, has more services because it deals with e-resources and it does not require as much space. Instead, we have space to add more services that were once taken up by hard copy books, resulting in greater efficiency and effectiveness,” Margee Ensign, AUN President, said.

She added that the university was focusing more on the use of technology to make learning easier.

“In Nigeria we cannot just focus on traditional education. To make education accessible and less expensive, it has to be about technology,” said Ensign.

She said the university's e-book collection was not only Africa's largest but also significantly larger than that held by most universities in America.
