FG Commissions 15 Special Girl-Child Schools

The Federal Government has flagged off the handing over of 15 Special Junior Model Girls Secondary schools constructed to improve girl-child education nationwide.

The flag-off of the schools constructed in 15 states of the Federation was performed yesterday in Ikwo, Ebonyi State by the Supervising Minister for Education, Nyesom Wike.

According to a statement signed by the Special Assistant to the minister on media, Simeon Nwakaudu, the Minister, was assisted by the Ebonyi State Governor, Martin Elechi.

Performing the flag off, he said the Special Girl- child schools were constructed by the Jonathan administration to improve enrolment of girls in schools across the country.

The minister also said the construction of the schools was to minimize the fear of insecurity of parents who for cultural reasons do not allow their female children to attend co-educational schools.

According to the statement "The Minister placed the data of the girl- children who are not in school at 62 percent in some Northern States.

Speaking at the project flag off, Ebonyi State Governor, Martin Elechi, commended President Jonathan for his commitment to using education to transform the lives of less privileged Nigerians.
