Apam Senior High School Tops In Central Regional Debate

Apam Senior High School (SHS) in the Central Region will be representing the region at this year’s National Debate Competition as part of activities commemorating Ghana's 57th Independence Day celebration.

Apam SHS topped with 72.3 points in the regional debate organised at the St. Augustine's College in Cape Coast followed by Mfantsiman Girls High School with 68.6 points and Winneba Senior High School for the third position with 67.3 points.

The debate discussed the topic: "Oil and Gas Find: A Strategic Catalyst for the Achievement of Ghana's Independence Goals"; with eleven schools representing their various district arguing for and against the motion.

Mr Archibald Kobina Fuah, Headmaster, Apam SHS, urged the students to study hard and move to greater heights.

Master Emmanuel Agyei-Poku, Head Boys Prefect, said the achievement had motivated the entire student body, especially the final year students, to aim for better results in the upcoming final examination.

Mr Jerry Sam, President of Apam SHS Old Students Association, commended the students for holding the banner of the school high among educational institutions in the country.

He said the Old Students would offer the school the necessary support to put up an impressive performance at the national debate to enable them to win.

Apam SHS was founded by the late Rev. J.W. De-Graft Johnson, who started the school in a cocoa shed at 'Apaa Paado' on February 13, 1953.

The school, which has a long tradition of excellence in academics and sports, started as a day secondary school with a vision to produce hardworking individuals to be of service to mankind and the nation.
