The University of Dubai on Sunday announced the launch of its College of Law and Master of Laws (LLM) programme after the approval from the UAE’s Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research.
Commenting on the launch of the College of Law, Majid Al Shamsi, the chairman of University of Dubai Board of Trustees and first vice-chairman of the Dubai Chamber said: “We are launching these programmes as an investment in talent within the legal sector. Graduates of this programme will go on to make a valuable contribution to the economic growth and stability of our [nation].”
The internationally recognised programme, taught in English, will consist of 11 courses that make up 36 credit hours in total and will run on a module basis with 15-week terms. Admission is currently open to Law graduates in addition to non-Law graduates.
At the launch event held at the Dubai Chamber, Eesa Bastaki, University of Dubai President said: “This highly specialised programme not only prepares students to meet complex business challenges in the legal fraternity but also equips them to occupy the highest legal offices in the UAE and abroad.”
Harold Koster, newly appointed director of The College of Law said that the LLM course, which will be offered over a period of 12 months, incorporates a rigorous curriculum with a strong focus on understanding fundamental legal principles that are essential for every law graduate and lawyer.
“To provide students with further knowledge in general principles of law, the modules will offer training in specialised areas such as arbitration, mediation and moot court practice, among other concentrations,” he added.
