Universities Rep at MoU Signing |
The MOU was signed by Hsieh Fa-dah, Taiwan’s representative to Singapore, and Eddie Kuo, head of the UniSIM Centre for Chinese Studies.
UniSIM is the second Singaporean university, following Nanyang Technological University, to forge cultural cooperation ties with Taiwan.
Hsieh said he hoped the new platform would help make each other’s culture more vibrant and stimulate the creation of new cultural innovation businesses.
Praising Taiwan’s cultural soft power, Kuo said Taiwanese dance troupe Cloud Gate and playwright Stan Lai both enjoy good reputations in Singapore. He hoped that with the promotion of Chinese culture, there will be more Singaporeans who get to know Taiwanese culture.
Kuo also said that the first activity to be staged under the MOU will be a concert held before the end of the year in which singers perform songs with lyrics from poems by renowned Taiwanese writer and poet Yu Kwang-chung.
A Chinese-language film festival will follow, in which films produced by Taiwanese directors will be screened, Kuo said.
