Bright Generation Community Foundation, a Kumasi-based NGO has distributed a total of 3,000 pair of shoes to school children in selected deprived schools in the Asunafo North Municipality.
The Executive Director of the NGO, Ms. Bernice Dapaah during the presentation indicated that the organization is into Educational projects for needy children in deprived communities and in women empowerment.
According to Ms. Dapaah, Asunafo North Municipality was chosen because it was considered as one of the deprived areas in the country.
She disclosed that the shoes were donated by Tom Shoes, who would be providing the shoes to the schools in every six months for four years.
Ms. Dapaah continued that it is not only shoes the NGO provide but other educational materials such as books, computers and textbooks among others.
The Executive director of the NGO disclosed that it was through the influence and efforts of the Member of Parliament of Asunafo North, Robert Sarfo Mensah that the municipality benefited from the free shoes for the needy children.
Among the beneficiary schools included Asukese L/A Primary and JHS, Aboagyae L/A Primary, Betwie Nyankomago Primary and JHS, Abeberese Primary and JHS, Kwadwo Adaekrom Primary and JHS, Adenkyekye Primary and JHS as well as Asumura Primary JHS.
The MP, Robert Sarfo Mensah commended the NGO for their assistance to improve upon the quality of teaching and learning in the Asunafo North Municipality, he urged the beneficiary children to desist from truancy and absenteesm.
He called on the teachers in the respective schools to give out their best to help unearth the talents of the children for proper development to have children who are good in both sporting activities and acadamic work.
The MP presented a set of Jersey and two footballs to each of the beneficiary schools, and call on the Landlords in the communities to provide accomodation to teachers posted at the communities to entice them to give out their best.
