Warwick University, Jaguar Land Rover Sign £100m Automotive Innovation Campus

Proposed Automotive Innovation Campus
Warwick University is to receive a new £100m investment, to build a National Automotive Innovation Campus for Jaguar Land Rover.

The campus has been dubbed a ‘brain trust’ and will be used to pioneer the green and high-tech sports and luxury cars of tomorrow, doubling the size of Jaguar’s research team.

The large postgraduate population of Warwick University will most directly benefit from the new 30,000 square foot campus as a range of new research opportunities will be created when it opens in 2016.

Professor Lord Bhattacharyya, the director of Warwick Manufacturing Group academy at the university, explained that the plans will benefit the university.

“The campus will give our staff and students even more access to the latest manufacturing technology and will see them work alongside industrial specialists to research and solve many more real world precision and premium engineering challenges.”

The university’s vice-chancellor, Professor Nigel Thrift, added that “the Campus will make a significant difference not just to the automotive industry but tens of thousands of lives.”

“The project will embrace and engage 14+ year old school students, undergraduate and postgraduates students, research fellows, academics, start-up owners, apprentices, industry engineers, supply chain specialists and automotive leaders which will help secure jobs both in our local region and nationally,” he said.
