Ministry to Re-introduce Vernacular In Basic Education

The Ministry of Education as part of efforts to improve on the standard of education at the basic school level has planned to re-introduce vernacular in the curriculum.

Deputy Minister in charge of Pre Tertiary Education, Alex Kyeremeh who was touring some schools in the Brong Ahafo Region noted that teaching pupils in their mother tongue results in better understanding hence, the need to revisit this laudable policy.

Mr. Kyeremeh revealed that about 80% of the teaching and learning in primary schools would be done in vernacular during the early stages of their education.

He also revealed plans by government to renovate dilapidated schools and issue about 12 million books for pupils across the country to aid them in their studies.

He admonished teachers to do their best to compliment the efforts of government in order to improve the standard of education in the country.
