Members of COEASU recently went on a seven-day warning strike to protest non-implementation of an agreement reached with government among other grievances and had threatened to declare an indefinite strike.
However, to avert an indefinite industrial action, the Minister of Labour and Productivity, Chief Emeka Wogu, summoned a meeting of stakeholders in Abuja, to re-assess the extent of the implementation of the agreement reached on August 30, 2013, between the Federal Ministry of Education and COEASU.
The meeting was attended by representatives of the Federal Ministry of Education, Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation, National Salaries Incomes & Wages Commission, Executive Secretary, National Commission for Colleges of Education, and COEASU.
At the meeting, the union brought new demands, including some of the issues in the existing MoU.
In a release issued at the end of the meeting, it was agreed, among others "that in consideration of the above conciliatory meeting which is at the instance of the Minister of Labour and Productivity, the meeting shall reconvene after 60 days to consider progress made in respect of the outstanding issues now referred back to the Federal Ministry of Education."
