Crown Technical University Sierra Leone Introduces New Courses

The Crown Technical University College (CTUC) on Tuesday unveiled new educational packages for the 2013 to 2014 academic year at the college's campus, Pyke Street in Freetown. The ceremony attracted a good number of students who wish to secure job market training.

A lecturer at the college, Dr. Raynod Senesie, explained that the meeting was to disclosure their new courses,which include Petroleum Management, Construction Management, and Information Communication and Technology. "We should develop interest among students on their areas of study so that we would have brothers and sisters to be part of managing our own resources in Sierra Leone. Most people graduate with no knowledge of ICT skills," he said.

Head of the Business Management department, James Stevens, gave a brief background of the college, noting that they want to create opportunities for the development of the middle level manpower and that they have strong educational partnership with the Tertiary Education Commission (TEC) and the University of Sierra Leone to ensure that Sierra Leoneans back home get quality British education through the British Technical Educational Council based in the UK.

Chief Executive Director of the college, Dr. Andrew Curtis, in his keynote statement, addressed the students and commended the effort of lecturers and officials of the ministry of education. He said he is happy for the development and embraced his vision to transform the society, especially the students' body as CTUC was established for students to have the skills to elevate themselves.

"Most people can't get employment because they lack the skills, which is why we are bringing this whole revolutionary educational framework that is aimed at looking at skills relevant that can allow people to add value to their skills," he said.
