Cass Business School
The Executive PhD programme is expected to attract senior leaders from across the public and private sector who want a research qualification with the academic rigour of a traditional PhD, tailored to an executive audience.

The joint part-time PhD programme is at the heart of the research philosophies of both TiasNimbas and Cass Business Schools.

Part-time research degree aims to benefit executives and their businesses Cass Business School, part of City University London, has linked up with TiasNimbas Business School, part of Tilburg University in the Netherlands, to launch a joint Executive.

The four-year, part-time joint degree programme is targeted at senior public and private sector leaders for whom research and development, knowledge management and innovation is important. Successful completion of the PhD thesis will lead to a joint PhD degree award from Tilburg University and City University London.

The qualification has highly practical benefits for employers and employees alike.  The field of study can be tailored to suit an individual’s specialism and the business challenges faced by their organisation.

Associate Dean for Research & Enterprise, Professor Igor Filatotchev of Cass Business School, said:  “For students, the degree is a chance to demonstrate greater value to their company and develop career enhancing knowledge and skills.   Meanwhile, employers retain the student’s expertise and benefit from a four-year thesis tailored to develop new insights to their business needs and objectives.”

Professor of Finance & Innovation, Ronald Mahieu of TiasNimbas Business School, said: “Participants in this programme are embarking on an exciting journey that will provide them with new insights and state-of-the-art knowledge in their chosen fields.

“As participants will experience, our faculties are dedicated to both academic rigour and practical relevance. I am convinced that this programme will give business professionals the opportunity to advance their careers by becoming thought leaders in their fields.”

Participants in the programme will study the latest scientific insights, theoretical frameworks and practical applications in their chosen field in an international context.  This will draw on Cass’s and TiasNimbas’ combined business and research expertise in finance, management, accounting, actuarial science and economics. The research training offered will also equip participants with knowledge of the tools and techniques necessary to develop robust research findings.

The programme consists of ten residential training weeks comprising five days each.  There will be four such training weeks in the first year of the programme, and two in each subsequent year. The training will be split equally between Cass’s campus in London and TiasNimbas’ in Tilburg.  The degree is slated to commence in January 2014 with a select cohort of ten to twelve students.
