A 150-seater Community Library, worth 72,000 Ghana cedis, has been inaugurated at Agona Asafo in the Agona East District of the Central Region.

The project was financed by Friends of Agona Asafo of Cambridge University, UK, through the instrumentality of Professor George L.T. Oduro, a native of Agona Asafo.

Inaugurating the facility, Alhaji Rashid Pelpuo, Minister of State in-charge of Public Private Partnerships, said government was committed to promoting education to improve the lives of Ghanians.

He said government was inspired to see such community project initiatives aimed at promoting educational standards of the citizenry.

The Minister, therefore, urged young graduates and well-to-do citizens in the area to emulate the example of Prof. Oduro and the group.

Alhaji Pelpuo donated 2,000 Ghana cedis and assorted books to stock the library.

Prof. D.D. Kupoli, Vice Chancellor of the University of Cape Coast (UCC), said reading formed part of the essential tools to facilitate the development of education and acquisition of knowledge.

Prof. Kupoli, on behalf of UCC, donated assorted books to stock the library.

He praised Prof. Oduro and Friends of Agona Asafo for initiating the project to assist children in the town.

Reverend Dr Keith Reglin, leader of the Friends of Agona Asafo, said education was an important tool for human development, hence, the construction of the library.

He also donated 10,000 pounds sterling to procure computers and accessories, and furniture for the library.

Nana Yamfo Asuako II, Chief of Agona Asafo, expressed appreciation to the group and promised that the chiefs would encourage children in the area to patronize the library.
