USC Launch New Community Health and Wellness Center

USC Health and Wellness Center (Counseling Services)
The University of the Southern Caribbean (USC) launch Community Health and Wellness Centre at its new location on Royal Road Maracas Valley, opposite the campus.

The Campus has expanded its health care services to meet the needs of the community. Apart from offering longer opening hours, the Health Centre is expected to include a women’s health clinic and emergency doctor. USC’s Health and Wellness Centre was previously located on Campus but has been relocated for the convenience of patients and customers. The new location on the main road makes it more accessible to members of the community and helps eradicate the misconception that it is only for students and staff of the University.

The Centre’s launch coincides with USC’sSign UP Open Day. Visitors can expect the characteristic campus warmth during their tour of campus facilities and interaction with faculty members as well as discounts and promotions from the Health Centre.

Dignitaries including USC President Dr Clinton A. Valley, Member of Parliament St Ann’s East Joanne Thomas and Justice Rolston Nelson of the Caribbean Court of Justice (CCJ) graced the auspicious occasion. Medical Director of Health Programmes and Technical Support Services Dr. Kumar Sundaraneedi and local counsellor Martin Gonzales also attended the grand opening and symbolic ribbon cutting ceremony.

Dr Valley said that the Centre is USC’s latest venture in helping to improve the Maracas Valley area. He encouraged members of the community to take advantage of the competitive prices and quality services at its convenient location. Additionally, Dr Valley stated that the institution plans to build on the three-pronged approach in improving the lives of community members. Apart from the services available at the moment, Dr Valley hopes for nutrition to be added in the future as USC can provide the community with wholesome food options.

Delivering the featured address, Dr Sundaraneedi congratulated USC for the opening of the Centre, stating that he was extremely happy with USC’s vision and efforts to play a role in the health and wellness of members of the community.

Director of the Centre Dionne Buffong (RN) feels that the move is a fantastic initiative as it will be mutually beneficial to the university and the community with regards to location and convenience.  According to Buffong, as the only health care facility in heart of the Maracas Valley area, the Centre should save residents the hassle of having to travel further for health services.

The Health Centre will cater to the working population by extending the opening hours of the Doctor’s Clinic. The Clinic will be open from 11am to 7pm on Mondays and Thursdays to attend to the needs of persons wishing to utilise the health services outside of regular working hours.
