National Orthopedic Hospital, Lagos Graduates 206 Specialist Nurses

As part of its resolve to focus on training of sub-specialisation in orthopaedics as well as improve orthopaedic care, the School of Post Basic Nursing Studies, National Orthopaedic Hospital, Igbobi, Lagos, NOHL, recently graduated 206 nurses from its Post Basic Orthopaedic Nursing and Post Basic Accident and Emergency Nursing Programmes.

Speaking during the 11thconvocation ceremony, Medical Director, NOHL, Dr. Olurotimi Odunnubi, who explained that the graduates were already qualified nurses that have come into the school to sub-specialise in Post Basic Orthopaedic Nursing and Accident and Emergency Programmes.

Odunnubi, who said the training would help meet requirements during disaster situations, noted that NOHL was focusing more on training and encouraging sub-specialisation for orthopaedic surgeons.

He observed that with the increasing rate of accident and emergency cases in the country, there was an overwhelming societal need to reduce the mortality and morbidity. NOHIL Management Board Chairman, Dr. Gbola Adetunji, said: "Nurses have gone beyond the role of caregivers to become key integrators, care coordinators and efficient experts who are redesigning the patient's experience."
