National Association of Nigerian Students
National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has declared a state of emergency on the education sector, saying the present deterioration in the sector is worrisome and calls for urgent attention.

Similarly, the student umbrella body also passed a vote of no confidence on President Goodluck Jonathan's administration while it commended the Imo State government's giant strides in the education sector, it called on other state governors to emulate Imo state.

A press statement issued in Kaduna by the NANS Treasurer Zone A, Comrade Isah Abubakar, the student called on the federal government to properly fund the sector and implement the 26 percent budgetary allocation to the sector.

"The student national body expressed worry over the lingering impasse between the Federal Government and the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) that resulted into the strike action which has paralyzed academic activities in Nigerian universities.

We also call for special intervention Fund for primary, secondary and tertiary education, and call on the federal government to immediately reconsider its decision which exempts Monotechnic from benefiting from the TETFUND.

The student body has also threatened a national action should the federal government fail to consider their demands.
