TWO Copperbelt University (CBU) students drowned at Nsobe Game camp

Francis Mulenga and Brindley Mpashi
TWO Copperbelt University (CBU) students have drowned in a river at Nsobe Game camp in Masaiti District.

Francis Bwalya and Brindley Mpashi, both second-year students in the school of Mathematics and Natural sciences, died after the canoe they were in capsized.

It was believed that the students hired a canoe operated by a private individual at Nsobe Game camp but the canoe capsized when they were returning to the shore.

CBU public relations officer Grace Mikunga confirmed the incident and said the two students were in the company of nine other people when they met their fate.

Ms Mikunga explained that the students were returning to the shore and that only one student who was in a life jacket survived.

She said the incident happened around 17:00 hours on Saturday and that the students were both from Mufulira.

"I can confirm that we have lost two students who drowned at Nsobe camp and CBU management has received the death of the two students with sadness and mourns with the bereaved families," she said.

Copperbelt University Students' Union president Oscar Mbewe said Mr Mpashi's body had been retrieved while police officers were still searching for Mr Bwalya's.
