Addressing the function, he said he was very happy to see the opening of the center in the university, adding that Goethe University has high potential for running the center given its long experience and scientific background.
The center will be jointly run by the Goethe University and the Justus Liebig University Giessen.
Professor Omer Ozsoy will chair the center. The 50-year old scholar who is originally from Turkey has served as an Islamic sciences instructor at the Evangelical Theology department of Goethe University.
The center for Islamic studies at Goethe University will present courses on Islamic theology, history of Islamic thought and Islamic education.
It will also offer a major in Islamic Faith. It has the capacity for admitting as many as 400 students in this field.
