Community Centre to Establish University in Abuja

The Muslim Community Centre (MCC), a non-governmental organisation in Abuja, has reached an advanced stage in its quest of establishing a university so as to meet with the yearnings and desire of the community and the citizens of the country.

Chairman of the governing board of the centre, Senator U.K. Umar made this known during the 16th Joint Speech and Prize giving ceremony of the five different institutions of the centre over the weekend in Abuja.

The chairman noted that "the governing board has gone some steps to establish a university for which a planning committee has been established", stating that the National Universities Commission (NUC) registration form was purchased and a 102 hectare land has just been allocated by the FCT.

Principal of Fou'ad Lababidi Islamic Academy, one of the five academies of the centre, Alhaji Ibrahim Aliyu Kperogi disclosed that a total of 54 students graduated from one academic phase to the other, adding that the his academy currently has 265 pupils.

Kperogi observed that the College of Arabic and Islamic Students (CAIS) has recorded a lot of progress in its ten years of existence, stressing that the college is being affiliated to the famous Al-azhar University of Cairo.
