Biriwa Vocational School Admits More Foreigners

The Centre Manager of Biriwa Vocational Training Institute in the Mfantseman District in the Central Region, Mr. Samuel Quarshie Amegbor, has appealed to the government and other stakeholders to support and assist vocational training institutions in the country to produce first-rate craftsmen to put up buildings, construct roads and fix vehicles.

He said students in the vocational training institutions should be sponsored to realize their dreams since the majority of them come from underprivileged homes.

Mr. Amegbor, who made the appeal at the matriculation and durbar of the 3rd phase of the Amnesty Training Programme at Biriwa in the Central Region said if vocational institutions continued to be neglected, the nation could lose quality and qualified craftsmen.

On the programme itself, he explained that 50 trainees, who are mostly Nigerians, were admitted to pursue 9-month training in Welding and Fabrication and General Electricals.

Mr. Amegbor mentioned that both boys and girls are trained on these programmes as well as basic generic skills to acquire quality employable skills to be self-employed or employed in either formal or non formal sector.

He advised the trainees that even though they may encounter many challenges in the course of their study, which might originate from homesickness, environmental change and academic difficulties, in all things they should remember that with perseverance they could overcome the difficulties. Mr. Amegbor also encouraged the trainees to feel at home and have sound mind to study since Ghanaians are affable and kind-hearted people and also advised them to obey school rules and regulations.

On his part, the Mfantseman Municipal Chief Executive, Mr. Henry Kweku Hayfron, commended the academic and economic partnership between the Mfantseman Municipal Assembly, Biriwa Vocational Training and Rehabilitation Institute and the Nigerian government and pledged that the assembly would continue to collaborate with the institute to ensure that high academic standards are maintained.

He stated that more was yet come into the municipality and that Biriwa Vocational Training and Rehabilitation Institute is expected to be a leader and pace-setter in terms of quality products, professionalism and effective role in national development.

Mr. Hayfron, therefore, entreated the trainees to approach their studies with diligence in order to prepare well to face the challenges of the competitive market.
