to Invest in Locust Beans Processing Plant
The Vice Chancellor, Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko, Prof. Femi Mimiko, has expressed the institution's readiness to invest in the modern processing of locust beans, popularly known as iru, for commercial purposes.

Mimiko disclosed the institution's plan while responding to a locust beans processing sponsorship request from the Olu-Supare of Supare Akoko, Oba Adejoro Adedeji, and a member of the Business Advisory Board (BAB) of the AAUA team of 'Entrepreneurs in Action for the Greater Good' (ENACTUS), Mr. Jeffrey Abidoye, who visited him.

Adedeji, who commended the consistency and perseverance of Ajasin Varsity ENACTUS students, said the time had come to get the involvement of the organisation in the hygienic and commercial production of locust beans off the ground for the betterment of the community, the University and the society.

Supare Akoko, according to Adekunle Ajasin University findings of the organisation, is among the largest producers of locust beans in Ondo state.

The VC said, "We are excited that the locust beans project is getting off the incubation stage. We always tell our ENACTUS team that the University is eager to ensure that their many concepts are being moved away from mere concepts and translate them into concrete reality. Without any question, this is an initiative we will like to support very warmly."

Mimiko urged the ENACTUS Staff Advisor, Mr. Tope Famuti, to work with the Ajasin Varsity Investment Limited (AVIL) and the Centre for Research and Development to work out the modalities of engagement and patenting of the initiative respectively.

While noting that the future of human development lies in entrepreneurship, the VC said, "We are trying to integrate what our ENACTUS is doing into our entrepreneurship programme so that the larger students could benefit. We make a commitment that we will continue to support the organisation."

He said AAUA was not only supporting ENACTUS but also linking it with AVIL to translate its endeavour into concrete realities.

He said AAUA would assist the student organisation in a way that would make it set up cottage industries, make money and integrate its activities into the Institution's core Entrepreneurship programme with the ultimate purpose of making it benefit the students and impact society.

Earlier in the day, the Country Director of the ENACTUS, Mrs. Ifedi Adesua, commended the liberal support given to ENACTUS by the University over the years and to seek further backing of the University in its programmes and projects.

She explained that ENACTUS had, early this year, launched its campus competitions, which would allow more participants to compete before coming to Lagos for the national event.

Adesua, who remarked that AAUA is one of the first Institutions to have held their campus competitions, also said, "The unique thing about AAUA team is its consistency. Another remarkable thing about AAUA team is that having done well in competitions in Nigeria, the team has shown consistently that it's not only out to win laurels but also to make impact and improve themselves."
