15 University of Philippines students receive POSCO scholarships

Fifteen UPD students received scholarships from the Pohang Iron and Steel Company TJ Park Foundation (POSCO-TJPF) through its POSCO Asia Fellowship program, on July 18 at the Hall of Wisdom of the Asian Center/GT Toyota Asian Cultural Center.

Ten of the 15 new scholars were in attendance at the awarding ceremony: Mark Romeo B. Aquino (BS Chemical Engineering), Benjie Allen D. Aquino (BS Business Administration and Accountancy/BS BAA), Dana Lee M. Benitez (BS Psychology), Jessica Ruth G. Biscocho (BS Business Economics), Bryan C. Chan (BS Computer Science), Julie Anne A. Francisco (BS BAA), Melvi D.R. Gabat (BS BAA), Keempee M. Gacula (BS BAA), Melissa Luz T. Lopez (BA Journalism) and Lara Caressa A. Suratos (BS BA).

Completing the list of POSCO scholars are: Dominic S. Albao (BS MBB), Mark Aldine F. Bucao (BS BA), Camille Patricia Y. Calma (BS BAA), Carem Ruth R. Morales (BS Architecture) and Gillie May A. Salomon (BA Linguistics).

Certificates of scholarship were awarded to the scholars by POSCO TJPF Secretary-General Jae-Woon Yang, POSCO Philippine Manila Processing Center, Inc. (PMPC) President Shin-Je Cho and UPD Chancellor Caesar A. Saloma.

Also present were POSCO PMPC General Manager Sung-Woo Rim, POSCO TJPF Project Manager So-hyun Jung and UPD Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs Ronald S. Banzon.

POSCO, the world’s leading steel company established in 1968, is now on its 8th year of helping UPD students through the POSCO TJ Park Foundation. Under the POSCO Asia Fellowship program, the foundation provides scholarships, facilitates research activities and sponsors literary works with the aim of enhancing mutual understanding and collaborative exchanges among Asian countries.
