TANZANIA Commission for University |
Addressing journalists in Dar es Salaam yesterday on behalf of the Executive Secretary of TCU, Information Officer, Edward Mkaku said TIU is not allowed to admit degree students on any programme because it has not been cleared by the commission due to some deficiencies.
"We wish to inform the general public that TIU is a private university registered to operate in Tanzania with a Provisional Licenses No. CRI/028 but its studies are limited to non-degree level only,"Mr Mkaku said.
Adding that: "With this licence and subsequent verification done by TCU, TIU has been allowed to admit students into approved regular certificate, short courses and diploma programmed only," he argued.
Mr Mkaku said that TCU required the TIU to stop admitting students and refund fees and any other dues of any student registered to undertake degree programme, as the institution had not fulfilled the terms and condition of TCU.
He further added that TIU has not been allowed to offer degree programme because it does not meet the requirement especially qualified teachers and other things. Established in 2010 in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania International University describes itself as a newly TCU registered university, located at Kimara Mwisho in Dar es Salaam.
"Tanzania International University is offering access programme to form four and form six leavers. The programme aims at upgrading the academic status of both levels to enable students to join the Certificate, Diploma and Bachelor courses offered at our University," said the latest statement posted on TIU's website.
Some of the courses offered include; Bachelor of Business Administration, Finance and Banking, Bachelor of Human Resource Management, Bachelor of Tourism and Hotel Management and Bachelor of Business Computer.
