Suiderlig High School Suspends Six Learners

SIX boys have been suspended from boarding at Suiderlig High School's hostel in Keetmanshoop.The hostel's committee chairperson, Michael !Goaseb, yesterday confirmed the boys' expulsion from the hostel.

!Goaseb said the decision to expel the boys was taken on Sunday after a disciplinary hearing which their parents attended.According to !Goaseb, four of the boys were found guilty of returning intoxicated to the hostel after they absconded, and the remaining two for violent behaviour.

The boys committed the offenses during the last academic semester just before the schools closed for holiday, said !Goaseb.

!Goaseb said one of two boys, who were suspended for violent behaviour, was involved in a fight.

The other one was suspended for violent behaviour after he threatened to stab a fellow boarder with a knife, !Goaseb added.

!Goaseb urged children's parents to teach them to avoid social evils such as drug and alcohol abuse.

Last month a grade 12 student schooling at local PK De Villiers High School opened a case of grievious bodily harm against a fellow pupil after being stabbed during break time on the school grounds.

The same victim also registered a similar charge against a six grader who had allegedly stabbed him five times on his body after a drinking spree at a local club.

The stabbing incident followed shortly after the local police had confiscated knives from PK De Villiers High students to prevent a gang-related fight.
