Myanmar to spend 40 billion kyats to upgrade universities

The Department of Higher Education has planned to spend 40 billion kyats on the extension and renovation of universities in 11 cities across the country, according to the sources from engineering section of the department.

The department has invited a tender to local businessmen for the project.

The project cities are Yangon, Bago, Pyay, Taungoo, Mawlamyine, Pathein, Hinthada, Maubin, Myeik and Dawei.

Libraries, indoor stadiums and other buildings of University of Yangon, Yangon Institute of Economics, Yangon Institute of Education, Dagon University, Yangon University of Foreign Languages, University of East Yangon, University of West Yangon and National Management College will be upgraded on a large scale.

The construction of indoor stadiums and renovation of the buildings of Bago University, Pyay University and Taung Ngoo University will also include in the project.

The project will also covers the construction of convocation hall and concrete paving at Pathein University, the renovation of convocation hall and construction of canteen at Mawlamyaing University, the expansion of university building and resurfacing of road at Hintada University, installation of 500 KVA transformer and other six construction projects at Maubin University, construction of rooms at Myeik University and repairing of indoor stadium, construction of new rooms and laying of asphalt on the road at Dawei University.
