It was gathered that the student was mistakenly shot on the leg by the policeman in the process of clearing the road for the bullion van, triggering students' protest at the densely populated Post Office area and stretching to Muritala, Challenge, as well as Ibrahim Taiwo road in the state capital.
For two days, commercial activities were paralyzed in the areas while the school was shut down.
The victim of the shooting, Ahmed Dayo, an ND student of Accountancy, is being treated at the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital (UITH), Daily Trust learnt.
The polytechnic's spokesman, Alhaji Mas'ud Amuda, confirmed the re-opening of the school to our correspondent in an interview, saying students have since resumed and are going about peacefully.
The state governor, Alhaji Abdulfatah Ahmed, had while receiving the Assistant Inspector General of Police in charge of zone 8, Mr. Chris Dega who was in the state to assess the situation of things after the protest, charged the police authorities to keep the public abreast of disciplinary measures being meted on erring police officers to serve as deterrent to others.
