Fire Outbreak Quelled in University of Ibadan Hostel
What would have resulted in a monumental loss in one of the oldest halls of residence in the University of Ibadan (UI), was put under control with prompt intervention of students before the arrival of fire service men.

The fire incident occurred around 4:30am in Tedder Hall at the mini shop beside Block C where students buy variety of foods. The cause of the inferno is still unknown as a young boy whose mother occupies the shop said; "I started feeling heat close to where I slept, I woke my elder brother.

"Just before we could get up, there was smoke everywhere. We started screaming, "blood of Jesus," that was when many students came out to help control the fire. Students played an active role in ensuring that the fire incident did not extend to rooms in Block C," said the Hall Chairman, Sylvester Oluoha.

Dr. K.O.K Popoola, the Hall Warden appreciated the efforts of the students. The Hall Master, Professor Ajav and assistant Hall Warden were also at the hall to mobilise and fast-track control of the inferno. In a chat with Quadlife, Mr. Wale Olutayo, the owner of Ebony Cyber café beside the mini shop who had some of his computers damaged in the inferno said that he believed that the fire begun due to electrical fault.

Students in Tedder Hall registered their total displeasure to Students' Union executives led by Comrade Babatunde Badmus for their failure to lend their support during the ugly incident. Sylvester Oluoha, the Hall Chairman who spoke on behalf of students in the hall said the damage has been done, goods worth millions of naira were destroyed.
