Chaminade University’s nursing gets CCNE accreditation
Chaminade University said that its four-year nursing program has received accreditation from the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education for the maximum five-year period.

The accreditation for the baccalaureate degree program was effective as of Nov. 5, 2012, which was the first day of the program’s most recent on-site evaluation, and extends to June 18, 2018.

“We are delighted to have reached this major milestone in our program,” Chaminade Nursing Dean Stephanie Genz said in a statement. “Accreditation would not have been possible without the hard work and commitment of our entire team here at Chaminade.”

The first class from the Chaminade University School of Nursing, which launched in the fall of 2010, will graduate in the spring of 2014 with some 50 students.

The Chaminade program, which has had more applicants than spaces each year, is an “admit and commit” program, which means the school ensures there is enough space to graduate each student who starts as a freshman.

“Our first-year students come in with a strong commitment to becoming a nurse and are academically well-prepared and community minded from the get-go,” Genz said.

“Many of our students are also transfer students, which also ensure a very well-prepared student.

Consequently, our program has enjoyed high rates of retention, exceeding national averages.”
