Under the patronage of Shaikh Abdullah Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Minister of Foreign Affairs, the fair was organised by the Emirates Foundation for Youth Development.
“The competition aims to explore Emirati science talents at an early age, support and empower them to unleash their potentials and create a new generation of knowledge leaders who are specialised in various fields of science and technology,” Shaikh Abdullah said.
A total of 160 projects were on display at the fair under the categories of: applied chemistry, applied physics, electrical and electronics engineering systems, energy, environmental sciences and management, intelligent and safety systems, applied sciences and engineering.
Two projects received a special distinction for inventing games for people with Down’s syndrome and producing a smart garbage bin. The competition has three interrelated major projects: the first phase reviews and assesses project proposals competing in various fields of science and technology.
The second phase brings together young scientists in interactive activities with government and private entities, while the third phase inspires and encourages youth to further develop their potential to use them in resolving local and global technological challenges.
Winners emphasised that they want to commit themselves to the betterment of their country through science during the award ceremony.
“It is the duty and responsibility of every one of us to support such ambitious youngsters and encourage them to become minarets of science, innovation and creativity in their homeland,” he added.
The Think Science fair aims to inspire and encourage Emirati youth between the age of 15 and 24 years to choose science for their future studies and career path in order to respond to the nation’s demands for science talents.
