UTGSU Condemns Unknown Notice At UTG Campuses

University of the Gambia (UTG) Students' Union
Members of the University of the Gambia (UTG) Students' Union have expressed disappointment and regret, and also condemned an unknown notice at UTG campuses in the strongest possible terms.

The letter reads: "Letter of condemnation of the unknown notice"

I wish to write on behalf of the University of The Gambia's Students' Government in relation to the caption highlighted above. The council received the notice with disappointment and regret and condemned the act in strongest terms possible. The notice mounted on campuses is not only personally disrespecting our Vice Chancellor, but also a threat to national security and inciting violence in the minds of university students. This is clearly evident in the notice captioned "The Gambia's Disgraced Vice Chancellor; the citations from the notice like "civil war" and "university will see fire" are chargeable in nature.

In the light of the matter, the 12th Executive Council of the SU convened an emergency meeting on Tuesday, 23rd April, 2013 where a communiqué was reached to condemn the cowardly act. Such a thing from a so-called "Students Right Movement" can jeopardize the future of more than 4000 students in the university. In this effect, the council mounted several notices in all campuses advising the student community to distance and disassociate themselves from such individuals to prevent a God forbidden situation for all of us.

The council undoubtedly promises to show solidarity to the administration and all best wishers our teething university against distractors who did not wish this country well. Each and every member of the executive is more than willing to avail themselves to any party wishing to investigate into this clandestine person/s and book the victim's to justice.

We know very well that this fight against such cowards and unknown troublemakers will be difficult for us but with concerted efforts and sincerity, the perpetrators will be fetched and the university will go back to its glorious days.

Even though we shortly stayed as a family, we have recognised the love and willingness of the administration to work with the students' government. This is a clear demonstration of the extent which you placed the university in your heart. We will never forgive or spare anyone, from students to staff or anyone else who will use students to penetrate the walls of the university to threaten the peace and security in this country.
