University of Law adopts global leadership model of president and provost

The University of Law
The University of Law (ULaw) is to adopt the higher education leadership model of President and Provost in line with many of its international peers, as it continues to develop its position as a global leader in higher education and legal training.

Current chief executive Professor Nigel Savage will become The University of Law’s first President, a role which will allow  him to focus on specific growth initiatives and regulatory and public affairs issues. Executive recruitment firm Saxton Bampfylde has been appointed to coordinate the search for the Provost, who will assume the day-to-day responsibility for management of ULaw.

Alan Bowkett, Chairman of The University of Law, said: “We have exciting growth plans for the University both domestically and internationally. Nigel Savage fulfils a crucial leadership position at The University of Law and it’s vital that we create the space for him to capitalise on his strengths and reputation at this key period in our development. We are fortunate to have inherited a very capable management team and through this reorganisation we feel we can accelerate our strategy development and implementation.

“We have built a structure at The University of Law that will not only deliver the growth that we are seeking but serve as a model of corporate and academic governance that will be a beacon of excellence and best practice  in the higher education sector. It is truly an exhilarating time in the history of such a successful university.”

Pending the appointment of the Provost, the Executive Team will be as follows:

Nigel Savage – President and Provost

Tom Boucher – Chief Financial Officer

Jane Chapman – Vice President (Academic Governance, Quality and Standards)

Sarah Hutchinson – Vice President (Business Development)

David Johnston – Chief Operations Officer

Scott Slorach – Vice President (Education)
